Running CEOs

The Running CEO’s event was launched on 7 Dec 2016 to support persons in South East Queensland affected by domestic violence, through fundraising for RizeUp Australia, Womens Legal Service and the Run 2 Give Foundation. The Running CEO’s event comprised some 20 leading Brisbane CEO’s – including ASA CEO Gavin Torrens. Each CEO had to recruit 100 team members and each member had to fundraise towards the team amount. Each team had access to a renown Australian coach allocated to assist with training - preparation was just as important as the conduct of the event. The Running CEO’s was a 10km run, jog or walk event conducted in the South Brisbane Pallara community. The ASA All Stars joined the CEO for this event including ASA field staff in Afghanistan and family and friends in Australia and New Zealand. Logging training time and distances over 10 months all contributed towards the event (and certainly helped with everyone's general health and well-being).
On Sun 7 Oct 2017 Debs, Alexis, our granddaughter Layla and I represented ASA in the Running CEO's event. My training comprised 5 km jogs, so this 10 km event was gonna be a bit of a shock to my body - NOT! I was pretty confident that if I maintained my 5 km pace then I would complete the 10 km without too much trouble. We were last to cross the start line and from then on I set my sights on catching and passing anyone with grey hair. There were many walkers and some who started with a hiss and a roar and then fizzled out. They certainly made me look good as I plodded ahead of them. Debs, Layla and I crossed the finish line at 1 hr 20 min 48 secs, which was 48 secs over the time I expected to achieve - must of been taking it too easy! The winner achieved 30 min 44 secs and over $139,000 was raised to support persons affected by domestic violence. A worthy event and deserving cause enjoyed.

Thank you for everyone's participation in the lead up to this event, especially our Kenyan participants Raymond and Nicholas, whom followed us all the way to end. My hope was that the training at least was beneficial for your own health and fitness. Cheers from Simon & Debs!
